As U.S. productions look abroad, the Los Angeles Times examines how Ireland became a go-to hub for American film, TV and game shows. ProdPro's survey of industry executives ranked Ireland among the five most preferred filming locations globally.

With production activity in Los Angeles at historic lows, American projects are increasingly looking overseas. The Los Angeles Times reports that Ireland has become one of the biggest beneficiaries, attracting series such as "Wednesday," "Foundation" and "The Rainmaker," along with a growing slate of U.S. prime-time game shows.

The Times' reporting draws on ProdPro intelligence to show how far Ireland has risen. In a ProdPro survey conducted this year, Ireland ranked in the top five preferred filming locations worldwide, behind only New York, the United Kingdom, California and Georgia.

That preference is showing up in spending. According to Screen Ireland, production spending in the country reached a record $632.7 million in 2025, up 26% from the prior year. Studios report full soundstages and tight supply of everything from lenses to edit bays.

Several factors explain the shift. Ireland offers a 32% refundable tax credit, with the per-project cap raised to $145 million. This year it added uplifts for VFX and post-production. It also became the first European country to offer a dedicated credit for unscripted content, which has helped draw shows like "The Floor" and "Beat Shazam." Experienced local crews, many trained on productions like "Game of Thrones," add to the appeal.

The article also shows Ireland doubling for America. "The Rainmaker" moved its Charleston-set story to Dublin, and its showrunner estimates the move saved about $10 million on a 10-episode season.

For producers weighing locations, crews looking for work, and film commissions competing for projects, ProdPro tracks where production is going and why.
