The Atlanta Journal-Constitution cites ProdPro's Q3 2026 data showing Georgia passed New Jersey for third place among U.S. states in live-action scripted spending, with $459 million spent, up 32% year over year.

Georgia's production volume has been steady rather than spectacular in 2026. But the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's monthly look at what's filming in the state shows a meaningful gain in the third quarter, based on ProdPro data.

According to ProdPro, Georgia overtook New Jersey for third place among U.S. states in live-action scripted production spending in Q3 2026. Studios spent $459 million on films and scripted series in Georgia during the quarter, up 32% from the same period a year earlier. Major projects included the latest DC "Superman" film, Dwayne Johnson's "Lizard Music" and Netflix's "Scooby Doo: Origins."

California remains first and New York second, and the gap between those two is narrowing.

The AJC also reports new arrivals that could support Georgia's momentum. "American Idol" relocated from Los Angeles after 25 years and is shooting at Trilith Studios, while Netflix's "The Hunting Wives" is moving its third season from North Carolina to metro Atlanta.

For crews, vendors and film commissions in the Southeast, ProdPro's quarterly data shows which markets are gaining share and which projects are driving the change.
